Add Custom Domains in WordPress on Azure
As in the earlier articles, you must have learned how to launch your web app WordPress by Microsoft Azure and your WordPress website will be running on the default primary URL like ###.azurewebsite.net. Now you may want to add your own custom domain to it. So in this article, we will show you How to Add Custom Domains in WordPress on Azure.
Steps to Add Custom Domain in WordPress on Azure
First you open your App Service Dashboard in Azure. Your App Service Dashboard will look like this.
Now in this dashboard click on “custom domain” in the app features list bar on the left side and let that page open. That page will look something like this.
To add a custom domain here, you must first select a plan. If you select a plan even if you are on the free trial plan, you will not be asked for any payment until the free trial. To select the plan, you click on the long button given below there. That page will look something like this.
Now select your desired plan and click on apply button. Then refresh the page and come back to the page with the custom domain. Now that page will look something like this.
Now you have to click on “Add Custom Domain” button here. On clicking the “Add Custom Domain” button, a half page will open on the right side, in which you have to fill your domain and click on Validate button.
Your domain will be checked for a few moments, then an A record and TXT record will have to be added to your domain’s DNS. After adding and saving this record, click on the validate button again. Now your domain hostname availability and domain ownership verified will appear. Now click on the “Add Custom Domain” button given there. Now your domain has been added.
Now again click on add custom domain button, fill your domain with www prefix and click on validate button. Now you will be given CNAME record along with the value or hostname and a TXT record to add to the domain DNS. After adding those records click on validate button again. Now your domain Hostname Availability and Domain Ownership Verified will appear. Now click on the “Add Custom Domain” button given there. Now your domain is added with www prefix. Now enable HTTPS as well. Now the dashboard will look something like this.
Your domains are not secure yet because they have yet to add or bind SSL or TLS certificates.
Conclusion
We will describe in the next post how to create and then add SSL or TLS certificates for these added custom domains, and other important steps.
Now after some time, your WordPress website and its admin panel will also be open on these custom domains but the default primary URL will also be open on ###.azurewebsite.net. We will describe all the methods to fix this problem in turn in the next posts.
