This interview podcast can be amazing because, given its benefits, it opens you up to a new audience. For example, if you interview another songwriter, you may be interested in their audience as well. It also allows for more diverse content to be published episode-by-episode podcasts.
However, if there are disadvantages, it can be difficult to schedule your episodes around other people's schedules or you may be reluctant to talk to them. And this will require a bit more research on who is interviewing as well as preparing questions in advance.
Chat Show Podcast:
Then you have chat show podcasts. For example, it may take the form of a panel show. A panel show is a term for a radio game show, although it is also sometimes televised, where competing teams with captains appear. A great example of this is Match Game or News Quiz, which is also a popular radio game show in the UK.
This forms a good part of the content research and creation you do. It's a group effort that doesn't just rely on your own stuff. Everyone can take a turn at interesting, creative responses, and if there's good energy among your contestants or your panelists, that's even better.
Although, again, it can be tough to work around other schedules. You will also have to act as a moderator and always be ready to keep things under control if your panelists get a little out of control. Also, remember that technical issues can also arise. If your panelists or guests are in different locations and using their own audio equipment, this may mean different audio quality that needs to be taken into account.
Interactive Podcast:
You can also try conversational podcasts. It's less written and just you and the panelist (the person in front) bumping into each other. Again, this is a little less stress than collecting questions, but it can take a bit of restrained time.
Narrative Podcast:
You might also be interested in Narrative Podcasts. It can be fiction or non-fiction, so there is a lot of scope in this field. It can be difficult to perform well without a large team in terms of sound effects and other similar aspects. However, if you have access to a great story or if you write your own story and you want to get it out there to as many people as possible, then this is the perfect platform for it. This is a great creative release.
However, if you decide to go for fantasy, it may require additional editing such as music, sound effects, and other technical aspects. The narrative in particular may be a growing place and it's not quite as far in as some of the other aspects that we've talked about.
Narrative Podcast:
Some great examples of ongoing and well-known narrative podcasts are Serial. It is non-fiction and won a Peabody Award in April 2015 for its innovative telling of long-form nonfiction stories. This podcast also holds a world record, having been downloaded over 340 million times till date.
